Updated: Jul 28, 2025
Another challenge overcome by people looking for cost-effective education!
"No matter your age or income: community college is now free in Massachusetts!".
has announced MACC ( Massachusetts Association of Community Colleges) , the entity representing the 15 community colleges in Massachusetts has announced that community colleges will be tuition free throughout the entire state.

About MassEducate
Free community college is made achievable in MA thanks to the MassEducate program, which is among the policies incorporated in the recent budget approved by Governor Maura Healey.A good portion of the money allocated to making community college free comes from the Millionaire's Tax.
Education in Massachusetts is now more accessible than ever before with the new program. This is a significant victory for current or potential students in MA, particularly those who have faced challenges due to higher education costs.
As we know, not having a degree can often represent a challenge for people seeking work even when they are highly skilled. Thanks to the lifetime discount on The Most Expensive Piece of Paper, we now have a chance to pursue opportunities that were once beyond our reach.
MassEducate covers tuition and fees and provides an allowance of up to $1,200 for school expenses (books, supplies etc) based on household income to students enrolled to earn at least 6 (six) credits.

Moving forward
Another barrier has been broken down, yes but specifically in Massachusetts and only for those who meet the eligibility criteria listed above. This means that there are still people on the other side, unable to cross the space where the barrier once stood. We're not at the end of our striving for free, equitable and accessible education for all. While we celebrate this victory, we must continue to work towards another.
Please use this information for your benefit and for anyone whose goals it could advance (your friend who now wishes he went to college after high school, your father who's interested in studying mechanics but think it's too late, your abuela who always wanted to learn about world religions ,...). Education is a right, it should not be treated as a privilege.
